This job involved the removal of asbestos insulation residue in the boiler house and a full environmental clean. The Effects of Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos Exposure is one of the biggest killers in the trade industry. When materials containing Asbestos are disturbed the Asbestos fibres are inhailed into the lungs which over years causes them to look like the image on the left.

This is a case of Mesothelioma, which is a cancer that effects the lining of the lungs, abdomen and in some cases the lining of the heart.

First Aid at Work

Midlands Asbestos Solutions attended the 'First Aid at Work' training course provided by St Johns Ambulance this week. The 3 Day course teaches you everything from putting a plaster on to the recovery postition.

The HSE made it complusory for there to be at least 1 person within a work place to be First Aid trained, which comes with good reason especially as asbestos removal comes with many risks, fortunately these risks are kept to a minimum due to risk assessments being carried out prior to any work commencing on site and specialist asbestos training which is required for all operatives.

Midlands Asbestos Solutions had a site audit carried out last week in Derbyshire area and passed with flying colours!!

The auditor from TASC commented on how there was a very good standard of asbestos removal work seen on site and that the site was strongly and competently run. So I would just like to thank all the employees at M.A.S for working hard and always keeping standards high!

Midlands Asbestos Solutions recently attended the BNI International Networking Week at Pride Park Stadium, Derby.

The HSE have recently published a FREE Safety and Health Awareness Day (SHAD) run by the industry as part of the UK- wide Working Well Together (WWT) Campaign.

Its aim is to raise the awareness of key health and safety issues facing the construction industry - specific to indiviual trades. Also, to give advice on how to recognise and avoid risks.

As Midlands Asbestos Soultions is concerened with the safe removal of asbestos and the safety of workers, we would like to help trades become more aware of the dangers of asbestos.

Being aware of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM's) and where it can be found is very important - If you come across asbestos DO NOT disturb it - Contact us and we will safely dispose of it!!

HSE plans to change Hygiene Facility standards!!

As Midlands Asbestos Solutions are a Licensed Asbestos Removal Contractor, we regualary receive updates on asbestos regulations issued by the HSE.

Most recent is regarding the Hygiene Facility. Please see below the changes that are expected to be made:

No stored items
Must be dry
Seals between the wall panels, walls, floor joints and ceiling joints must be clean and effective
Doors and surroundings must be clean
NPU Casing and transit cover must be clean - also beneath
Must have clean sinks, showers and associated drains

Analysts will not issue a Certificate of Reoccupation for Hygiene Facilities unless they are "fit for purpose" This Includes:

Flooring that has been worn to the point where it is not possible to thoroughly clean
Seals that are worn and harbour ingrained filth
Cracked surfaces, including sinks

The HSE are looking at issuing prohibition notices and improvement notices to any Hygiene Facilities that do not comply with this!!
